ToggleWHAT HAPPENED?
Sanchez was invited to the home of Chile team-mate Mauricio Isla for a small-sided game and chose to wear Arsenal's new retro-inspired 2024-25 home shirt. The 35-year-old reposted an Instagram story originally uploaded by Isla showing the teams. Clearly, he still holds dear feelings towards Arsenal, having left the club for Manchester United in January 2018.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Both men were in Chile's veteran Copa America squad this summer, featuring 10 players aged 30 or over – Isla is 36, while Sanchez is 35. After failing to score a single goal and finishing the group stage with two 0-0 draws and a 1-0 defeat, the 2015 and 2016 champions were sent home early.

WHAT ALEXIS SANCHEZ SAID
Captioning a second image from the day as an Instagram story, Sanchez said: "Football gives you beautiful moments like these. Thank you, football for teaching me how to sound."

WHAT NEXT FOR SANCHEZ?
Sanchez, who scored 80 goals in 166 Arsenal appearances between 2014 and 2018, is currently without a club after his contract with Inter expired last month. He struggled for game time in Milan and one option, if he doesn't retire altogether, could be to return home to Chile, having last played for domestic giants Colo Colo in 2007. Sanchez's first club, Cobreloa, were promoted back to the top flight for the ongoing 2024 season.
